Slovenian Romantic Road

Very picturesque countryside tour, emphasis on rural countryside and natural point of interest as well as of cultural interest. Suitable for cyclists with good condition (over 2 higher passes).

day 1: ARRIVAL TO RIBČEV LAZ, BOHINJ VALLEY

main attractions: untouched alpine valley with pastures, hayracks and farms, beautiful scenery.

day 2: RIBČEV LAZ - SORICA

tour goes across a ski centre Soriška planina&22 km and alongside Jelovica high plateau, one higher pass (1200 m); possible by train through 6 km tunnel.
main attractions: waterfall Savica (extra 10 km route), Sorica-birthplace of impressionist painter Grohar.
we liked: deep forest of the Julian Alps along the route.

day 3: SORICA - ŠKOFJA LOKA

tour goes alongside Jelovica high plateau, flat.&27 km
main attractions: Zelezniki-old smelting furnace, medieval town of Škofja Loka.

day 4: ŠKOFJA LOKA - LJUBLJANA - VALBURGA

easy route going through Ljubljana basin.&45 km
main attractions: Ljubljana-the capital with its sights, Tacen-world famous kajak boats route, Smlednik castle.
we liked: baroque town of Ljubljana.

day 5: VALBURGA - KAMNIK - GORNJI GRAD

route through Ljubljana basin, below Kamnik-Savinje Alps,&40 km over one higher pass (900 m) into the upper Savinja valley.
main attractions: medieval town core of Kamnik, Mekinje-ursulin monastery, beautiful scenery, narrow Črna valley.
we liked: town Kamnik.

day 6: GORNJI GRAD - NAZARJE - MOZIRJE

tour goes through the side valley of Savinja river, slightly&18 km upwards.
main attractions: Gornji Grad-church and monastery, Nazarje-castle Vrbovec, horticultural park Savinjski Gaj.
we liked: beautiful botanical park.

day 7: MOZIRJE - LOGARSKA DOLINA

the Upper-Savinja-valley-route, mostly flat.&35 km
main attractions: Radmirje-church with treasury collection, many monuments of natural importance, untouched valley Logarska dolina and valley Robanov kot.
we liked: scenic Logarska dolina with waterfall Rinka.

day 8: DEPARTURE FROM LOGARSKA DOLINA
