About Slovenia

Discover something new - Active holidays in Slovenia!

Slovenia is a diverse country with a remarkable natural variety that pollution happily has not damaged. It further boasts a colourful cultural legacy left by the variety of cultures that have met and mixed here on the southeastern edge of the Alps for a millennium or more. Landscapes with more than a hundred faces are revealed to us, their traditional appearance created by the continuous subtle balance between nature and man.
In this brochure, we offer a survey of established bicycle trails in Slovenia, that is, the bicycle trails that are marked and presented on maps and in guidebooks with maintenance services, bicycle rentals, guides, and information services available along the way. While the rate of development of Slovenia's network of bicycle trails may not yet have reached the level of some European countries, the possibilities for pleasant bicycling still exceed the always too short holidays.

You can explore Mediterranean Slovenia in the karst region (Bicycle trails in the Kras Park, Trails across Snežnik Park) and the mysteries of the Slovene mountains on the trails around Kranjska Gora (At the foot of the Julian Alps), in the Upper Savinja valley (Experience the mountains, rivers, and forests), below Mount Peca in Koroška (Mountain Bike Park), and in the Pohorje mountain range (A bicycling village in the middle of the forests). We offer a multitude of possibilities for cycling in the surroundings of natural spas (Prekmurje Bicycle Trails, In the Sunny Foothills of Goričko, Where nature bestows health, Brežice Bicycle Trail), and you can enjoy the beauties of the countryside along the Drava River (Drava Bicycle Trail and Jantara (Jade) Bicycle Trail) and the Kolpa River (Kolpa River Bicycle Trail).

We hope the pleasures of bicycling in Slovenia will remain in your memory: riding through meadows clad in thousands of colours, chasing the beams of light struggling through the autumnal colours of the forests, or daydreaming in the murmur of a mountain stream. Perhaps the friendly smile of someone you meet here will become imprinted in your memory, persuading you to return again and again to discover new aspects of Slovenia's diversity.

Slovenia's extremely well preserved and varied nature requires respect from all our visitors, including cyclists, which should not be too difficult since in our hearts we bicyclists are defenders of nature. We do not ride off the marked trails through the forests and fields. Wherever we ride, we are aware that we are only visiting, without letting the entire area know about it. We are only passing through, while the local people and other living creatures live here. Let's not make their lives more difficult; instead, let's enjoy the beauties revealed along the trail, not necessarily just magnificent castles or rich museums but also the seemingly modest and unimportant landmarks of the life of man and nature.

Bicycling is allowed on most of Slovenia's secondary roads but is prohibited on expressways and on marked sections of heavily-used roads.
